Open letter to 2012.

By: Danijela Šimrak

Dear 2012., let’s get a few things straight. First of all, your friend 2011 was really mean and that is why I expect more from you. In other words, get a grip, pay attention and don’t fool around. Second of all, no more New Year’s resolutions, I’ve got New Year’s demands.

Health

Seriously, enough already. Less doctors and no more unexplainable conditions. I expect a diagnosis for everything 2011 and 2010 brought along, preferably with carefully defined and efficient treatment. I would ask you to make my waist line slimmer but I know there’s nothing you can do about that, it’s all on me.

Job

I want a job, meaning a real job and a paid job. None of that volunteer crap. If I invest my time and strength in something, I expect it to pay off. And just so you know, I don’t really care that these days it is practically impossible to make that happen. You will make it happen and don’t ever try to bring recession or cutbacks into this, I’ve heard that excuse before. By the time 2013 comes to town, I want to have a steady job and a savings account with a decent amount of money on it. Yes, this is a tough one but I trust in you.

Family & Friends

Make them happy and healthy. Don’t give them everything they want so they always have something to strive for, but make sure you give them enough of me. They can never have too much of me.

Entertainment

Tell David Gray it is time he starts touring around South-Eastern Europe, after 12 years of worshipping I deserve a concert. Red Hot Chili Peppers are playing in Zagreb on my birthday and it would be cool if Josh Klinghoffer would suddenly come down with a flu few days before. The only suitable replacement would be John Frusciante. Award season is coming up, please stuff a sandwich down Angelina’s throat so I don’t have to watch her bones sticking out of pretty dresses. Ricky Gervais hosting Golden Globes – good but not good enough, start prepping him for Oscars. Ban Kardashians from all high-profile events. Actually, ban their media existence.

General demands

I’m not a blonde beauty queen so I can’t really wave and ask you for world peace, but if you get a chance, help people understand each other more. Understanding is the key of successful cooperation. Democratic revolutions are always welcomed so make people realize that the power of change is in their hands and every unsatisfied voice counts.

There you have it, all written down for you so you can’t say you didn’t get the memo. Even if you choose to ignore all my demands you need to know that in spite of it all, I plan to worry less and sing more. Singing makes me happy and doesn’t give me wrinkles.

Fellow bloggers and dear readers, I wish you all the best in 2012 and hope it treats you nice. May we always find the inspiration for good articles and provoking comments.

Happy New Year!
