Balkan Junctions introduces us to several strangers on a train through the Balkans, who until 2010 had one thing in common – they all felt trapped due to EU travel restrictions with visa application processes. Today, the majority of the Balkan states are part of the free EU-visa regime. Kosovo remains the only country that is subject to long, expensive and often humiliating procedures to acquire schengen visa that would allow them to travel to the rest of Europe. Moreover, now the European Commission is discussing of revoking the visa liberalization for Serbia and Macedonia, which would be a great setback in the process of increasing freedom of movement for the region.

Meanwhile, this documentary shows the values hopes, and experiences of Balkan citizens that go beyond borders. The people who meet at Balkan junctions often have a common story, despite their cultural differences.

Balkan Junctions won "best documentary" International Student Film and Video Festival Filofest, 2007.
