If you have ever tried to find your way around Kosovo, you know that landmarks such as monuments, famous buildings, or restaurants and cafes are points of orientation, rather than street names. The latter have changed several times during the past few decades and are, thus, difficult to keep track of.
For the postal service, this can become a nightmare. Often, people who send letters only provide a landmark and the name of the recipient or an incomplete address. Then, the mailmen resemble detectives, going around, asking people for names, points of reference, or just any clue to where the recipient of a letter resides.
If you are curious how firefighters or the ambulance deal with the situation or why a building in Prishtina is named after a singer watch “Blue Wall Red Door.”
The documentary of Alban Muja and Yll Citaku captures the chaos of nameless streets, a reminder of the blanks that history has left behind.
