Roma have left their footprints all over the world, one being in Plementina, Kosovo. Through the documentary “JEKH KHAM JEKH SEL - One Sun One Nation,” Sami Mustafa and Plementina's youth let us experience bits of their tradition, culture and spirit. We learn about their history, present and hopes for the future, and we are ensured that “as long as there are Roma, there will be music.”
We are a “diaspora people” wrote Ian F. Hancock in his book “We are the Romani people” - a “global population” as much part of Europe as anyone else. However, “Romanies can only be Europeans if Europeans want them to be - if they are willing to open the door and let Romanies in - and so far this doesn't seem to be happening,” he wrote.
Could one reason be that Europeans think they know everything about Roma, when they actually know nothing? Documentaries such as “One Sun, One Nation” can help overcome gaps and open doors, so take some time and listen to the youth of Plementina.
