Njomëza Luci is a fashion designer who has managed to successfully combine the couture spirit of the United Kingdom and Kosovo.
She received a Bachelors degree from the University of Prishtina’s, Faculty of Art, the graphic art department. During this part of her life she became a part of the Dodona Theatre and the National Theater, pouring her talent into costume, set and puppet design. Afterwards Luci studied at the Istituto di Moda Burgo in Milan, Central Saint Martine’s College of Art and Design in London (where she specialized in hat styling) and at Wimbledon College of Art (where she specialized in corsets). Luci has explored the art world widely, namely in photography, the restoration and conversion of cultural heritage, even ceramics.
When she came back to Kosovo, Luci began designing for famous names in Kosovo’s music industry (currently she designs for pop diva Adelina Ismajli). Do you remember Flakareshat? Luci took care of their image and clothing at the RTSH music festival in 2005. When you think of fashion in Kosova, you think of Luci’s name and lines.
For the 100th anniversary of Albanian independence, Luci launches an exclusive line of hats called “Harmonia dhe Disharmonia” (Harmony and Disharmony). Her line reflects the evolution of Albanian clothing and its particular style of hats, such as plisat and qeleshet. Luci got inspiration and knowledge of shapes and concepts from hats used by Albanians in Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia.
Asked about the concept of her line, Luci says that these 100 years have been full of harmony and disharmony for the Albanian people, in terms of its existence as a nation and its voyage over time though appearance and style. Luci’s hats are a symbolic expression of this, that’s why Luci dedicates this line to the memory of all Albanians. The collection is for sale and contains fifty couture hats.
You can buy Luci’s creations at her store in Prishtina, Fashion Atelier/NL. Address: Rr.Qendra Tregtare. Bregu i Dellit. Nr. 1, 10000, Prishtinë.
