#11 HOPE

#11 HOPE

Reflecting on what hope means for Kosovo — and for Kosovo 2.0 itself — this issue addresses a new decade that has arrived on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic. Exploring how hope intersects with anger, resistance and the demand for change, this issue of Kosovo 2.0 is an urgent call for action on environmental destruction, the rise of the far right, economic inequality and social injustice. At the same time, “Hope” offers a space for feminist discourse, cultural expression, solidarity and alternative futures.

#8 SPORTS

#8 SPORTS

This issue of Kosovo 2.0 examines how, despite limited infrastructure, funding, and state support, sports have shaped national identity in Kosovo’s pursuit of recognition. Explored in the context of inequality and nationalism, this issue highlights sports' ability to unite communities and expose divisions. “Sports” was produced with the support of the crowdfunding campaign “Kosovo Wants To Play.”

#7 MIGRATION

#7 MIGRATION

This issue of Kosovo 2.0 examines how migration — whether by workers abroad, refugees or contemporary economic emigrants — shapes identity, home and belonging. Sensitive to the political and social structures that define who can and cannot move, “Migration” presents personal stories of Kosovars across generations (from guest workers under Yugoslavia, wartime refugees and today’s youth) alongside a broader analysis of migration rights and policies.

#6 BALKART

#6 BALKART

“Balkart” centres on art and cultural production in the region, gathering stories from artists — in theatre, film, literature, performance and visual arts — whose work challenges dominant political narratives. It positions art not as peripheral, but as a vital medium through which people reflect on “uncertain transitions,” engage in social critique, and contribute to broader debates about political thought, collective memory and social change in the region.

#5 PUBLIC SPACE

#5 PUBLIC SPACE

“Public Space” interrogates how the physical and symbolic spaces we inhabit — streets, squares, buildings, memorials — shape social life, identity and power. This issue of Kosovo 2.0 examines how people across Kosovo and beyond are striving to reclaim, transform and reimagine public spaces. The magazine delves into the question of who truly "owns" the city and who has the authority to define its memory and future by exploring a landscape filled with war-era memorials, urban redevelopment, abandoned buildings, street art and much more.

#4 SEX

#4 SEX

Unpacking how sex and sexuality are deeply political: this issue of Kosovo 2.0 examines how bodies are controlled and regulated, and how patriarchal norms and heterosexuality limit personal freedom, ideas of gender and identity. “Sex” combines analysis and personal testimonies that cover LGBTQ+ narratives, intersexuality and sex work, while reflecting on the stigma, homophobia, and legal-social constraints that hinder sexual and gender freedoms in Kosovo and the region.

#3 RELIGION

#3 RELIGION

Religion has re-emerged as a powerful force shaping identity, morality, politics and collective life in Kosovo and the broader region. This issue of Kosovo 2.0 gathers stories and analyses — from the rise of moderate religious movements abroad to personal testimonies of conversion or abandonment of faith — to examine how religious identities influence social belonging, public life and contestations over morality, memory and power.

#2 CORRUPTION

#2 CORRUPTION

Through investigative stories and personal accounts, “Corruption” explores the human and societal costs of nepotism, patronage and shortcuts, while examining how systemic corruption distorts opportunity, accountability and civic life. Going beyond headlines, this issue of Kosovo 2.0 examines the networks, pressures and historical context that sustain corruption, exploring how this systemic issue erodes citizens' trust in the state and diminishes their sense of connection and engagement.

#1 IMAGE

#1 IMAGE

Kosovo 2.0’s debut issue, “Image,” explores independent Kosovo post-2008 — a time crystallized by symbols like NEWBORN — that contain the promise and pressure of shaping a national image. Beyond surface-level analysis, this issue interrogates how international perceptions and local self-representations have simplified, distorted or overlooked the complexities of collective identity. Through a blend of critique and celebration, “Image” sets the tone for a magazine committed to thoughtful, nuanced storytelling.
